Step 1 of 5
Before you begin, it’s important to think about what type of Further Education job would be the best fit for you.
On this page you can find some areas you might want to consider to help you make a decision.
When starting a new role, it is good to think about a few important factors
Don’t worry if you don’t have an answer for all these areas yet.
What’s important is that you have identified some of the things that matter most to you.
Sector
Have you thought about what sector you want to work in:
- Do you have a specific area of expertise that you want to share through teaching?
- What subject could you be confident in teaching others?
Location
Have you thought about where you want to work:
- How far you can travel for work?
- Would you be able to relocate for a job?
Training
Have you thought about any training you might need?
Including:
- What level of training do you expect from a new role?
- What type of training would help you feel confident to do the job well?
Qualifications
Have you considered any qualifications might you need to start a new role?
- Does the new role expect you to have certain qualifications and are you willing to study to get them?

You can also check if your teaching qualifications gained abroad meet the UK standard at UK ENIC.
Eligibility
Do you need to provide evidence for your new role? Most colleges will have some eligibility requirements that you will need to meet to be offered a role.
These will be different for every college, but they can include things like background checks, sharing if you have a criminal record or proving you are eligible to work in the UK.
